Welcome to Seussical!

Hello adults of our Seussical Jr. musical participants,

Over 100 student auditioned for roles in the spring musical, and your student earned themselves a role! Congratulations!

Throughout the next 9 weeks everyone will be working hard to put together a great show. Lil Zumberge has returned as our director, with Ryan Jakacki as the ever-faithful assistant director. Jessica Edelheit comes back again to produce (and send this email). John Myszkowski will lead kids in musical rehearsals, and Mary Coats is choreographing again with help from newcomer and SLP math teacher, Jen Schmerler. We also have Noa Raasch, a junior from SLP HS coming to help with all things musical related.

A few very important notes. This year communication will work differently. All updates and communication will come via the SLP Theater blog-so bookmark this link: http://slpjhtheater.blogspot.com. Very rarely will an email be sent to each individual. You will need to rely on the blog for all play related information.

In order to know when an update has posted you will need to sign up for Remind 101. Remind 101 is a one way messaging service that you receive via text, email, or both. You can sign up with as many cell numbers and/or email addresses as you want. It is totally free. Your information remains anonymous, so no one will be able to see your email addresses or phone numbers. Once the blog has been updated a Remind 101 will be sent to all those who have signed up. Directions on how to sign up for Remind 101 are attached as a PDF. You’ll only need to sign up once. We encourage your students to sign up as well. We realize this is a big change from years past. Using Remind 101 will help the play staff streamline communication and cut down on the amount of time we spend tracking bounce back emails and incorrect addresses. We appreciate your willingness to try something new. We will begin sending Remind 101 message on Friday (3-14).

We are asking for snack donations for our rehearsals. When rehearsal is called until 4:30 snack will be provided for students. We ask families to donate individually wrapped snacks (granola bars, pretzels, and fruit snacks are always big hits). If you would like to donate, please drop your donation in the front office. We also ask that kids with food allergies provide their own snacks-we don’t want to take any chances.

We are charging a participation fee of $50 this year. The participation fee covers many costs including the cast t-shirt, scripts, copies, rights to the show, and dinner during the week leading up to the performances. Scholarships are available to those in need. Please contact Ryan Jakacki with any questions or scholarship related needs. Checks should be made out to SLP JH THEATER and include your student’s name in the memo line.

We won’t be shy in asking for help throughout the play season. It takes a village to raise a child, and at least 3 villages to put on a musical with 90+ kids!! Thank you in advance.

We are hoping to get a parent play meeting on the calendar coming up soon. Here is next week’s rehearsal schedule with one change from the Oriole Times article:

Tuesday, March 11 (until 4:30) all Who’s (including Mr. & Mrs. Mayor and Jojo), Horton, The Grinch.
Thursday, March 13 (until 3) all Jungle Creatures, Sour Kangaroo, Horton, Wickersham Brothers, Bird Girls, Mayzie, Gertrude.
Friday, March 14 (until 4:30) all Jungle Creatures, Sour Kangaroo, Horton, Wickersham Brothers, Bird Girls, Mayzie, Gertrude.

We so appreciate you being involved in your student’s extracurricular activities. Please contact us with any questions. Ms. Zumberge can answer your questions that relate directly to the kids and rehearsals, Mr. Jakacki will field all money and scholarship related questions, and Ms. Edelheit can answer questions on communication and volunteering.

Thank you for reading this long email. With everyone involved with cannot fail. We look forward to seeing what the show will bring, and can’t wait to see all of your kids dance and sing!

IMPORTANT INFO

Hello parents and guardians of “The Little Mermaid” cast and crew, Show weekend is upon us! Finally all the hard work of learning lines, dances, and prop placement will pay off! The kids have put together something special and we expect audiences to be blown away by the sights and sounds. A reminder of show times: Show start at 7pm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and at 1pm on Sunday. Tomorrow (Thursday), students will take the bus from school directly to the High School. With the complexity of the show, combined with the amount of time it takes to style them all, we need all the minutes we can get. We will provide the kids with dinner this one last time. It will be sandwiches and chips. These sandwiches WILL have turkey and cheese on them. If your student does not eat turkey and/ or cheese we ask that they pack their own sandwich. Students will NOT be allowed to leave to go to McDonalds. If anyone would like to donate dessert for dinner on opening night, we would welcome cookies :) Water will not be served as ALL STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE THEIR OWN WATER BOTTLE. On Friday, please make sure your student is at the High School NO LATER than 5pm. This is also the call time for Saturday. On Sunday students should arrive by 11am. On Sunday, all members of the cast and crew must stay until the stage and dressing rooms are completely clean. LIL ZUMBERGE WILL DISMISS EVERYONE ONCE THE JOB IS DONE. Students should NOT take their photo boards home, as we will be hanging them up at school next week. It is so, so important that students bring a water bottle with their name on it. As I’m sure they’ve told you, it gets hot backstage! This year we have something a little different about ticketing. On Thursday night you can purchase a WEEKEND PASS. Essentially it’s 4 tickets for the price of 3. We are selling adult weekend passes for $18 and student weekend passes for $12. Once you get your weekend pass, show it to the ticket takers at the doors and then hang onto it for the remainder of the weekend. We hope these weekend passes make it a little easier on the pocketbooks of families who have students in the show. All checks should be made out to SLP JH Theater. Finally, there will be a cast party on Thursday, May 30 in the cafeteria after school. We are asking kids to either bring a snack to share or provide $5. If your student will bring a snack to share, please email Jessica Edelheit so we know how much is coming, versus how much we need to buy. We will send a final email about this cast party next week, as well as make announcements in school. On behalf of Lil, Ryan, myself, and the whole creative team, we so appreciate your involvement in your student’s extracurriculars. This year’s musical process has been fabulous-and all of your are contributors to that. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Little Mermaid Rehearsals

The Little Mermaid has been cast! We are very excited about working on this show. Please see the rehearsal calendar below for a basic idea of the schedule. MANY CHANGES WILL BE MADE to this calendar, but this at least gives you a basic out line of what most weeks will look like.
